Remove the extruder stepper motor from its bracket. Carefully open one side of the 3D printed dual extruder mount (without breaking it) and slip the first stepper motor in. Repeat for the second stepper motor. Make sure the cable connectors will not be blocked. Screw the M5 screw into the middle hole. Compress the mount onto the stepper motors by tightening the nut onto the screw.

Remount into the original extruder"s position as shown in the position and reassemble the titan extruder for both motors. Use the 3D printed spacer in-between the new stepper motor and Titan extruder.

Note: Fore better cable security, I mount the original extruder motor backward so that the cable connector is facing away from the control box. Then I mount the new extruder motor with the extruder facing the control box. See the second image.

Turn the Tornado on and heat up the hot end to 200C. Unload any filament being used. Remove the stock bowden tube (see the link below to ruiraptor"s tutorial). You may need to unscrew the bowden tube couplers from the hot end heatsink and loosen the extruder assembly. Rescrew and tighten.

I find it helpful when slicing objects to have the extruders and filament as 2 different colors. I do this by just changing the material name. HIPS, for example, is blue.

If you wish to print with flexible filament such as PVA, you will need to print this in order to prevent the filament from bind up behind the extruder gear with the long retractions take place. Just add a bit of glue and snap it into place like on the photos.

I was wondering if you can suggest where I could purchase the titan extruder as the link that you have is no longer being sold - or if you could let me know if there are other kits that are just as good to use. Any help greatly appreciated.

I"m fairly new to the 3D printing community, so please excuse my ignorance on some of these subjects.  My reason for 3D printing is to make part for my scale boat, so tinkering with the printer is not my priority.  I do learn quickly, but need step-by-step instructions for most of the set-up (firmware conversion) and software settings.  I create my own 3D CAD models and convert them to .STL files, then use CURA (V3.4.0) to make the g-code files.  I want to add a second extruder to use HIPS for the support material of the ABS parts for my boat.

Does anyone have step by step instructions for adding a second extruder and nozzle to a Tornado?  I have found that there is a dual extruder kit for the Tarantula (operates on 12V vs. 24V for the Tornado) that might work, however, there is not enough instructions for me to accomplish the conversion.  How do I configure CURA to use the second extruder for HIPS Support material?  What hardware do I need?  Dual Nozzle assembly, 24V heater elements, Second Extruder & stepper...

The Dual-Drive gears of the Bondtech BMG create constant contact with both sides of the loaded filament, allowing for greater grip during both extrusion and retraction operations. While most Nema 17 stepper motors are capable of producing enough torque to overcome this pressure, there is still a speed limitation. Another issue I ran into, was some quality control issues. The cowling for the extruder was bent badly. It actually went below the nozzle and couldn’t print. Because it is a pretty thin metal, it was easy to bend back into an acceptable shape. This also created another problem that I noticed later.
